Alyasir A. Hussam Updates Teachers on New Grading System and Class Record in K to 12

Alyasir A. Hussam, TIC of Poblacion Elementary School and Annex updated Indanan South District teachers on the New Grading System and New Class Record in the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum during the conduct of 1-Day District Post Conference at Timbangan Elementary School GEM Multi-Purpose, Timbangan, Indanan, Sulu last June 16, 2015. He based his lecture from DepED Order No. 8 s. 2015 dated April 1, 2015 entitled 'Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program. DepED Order No. 8 s. 2015 amended the implementation of KPUP (Knowledge, Process, Understanding, Product) as the basis for the computation or rating of pupil's performance specifically grades that shall appear in the report card. 

In the presentation of Alyasir A. Hussam, WW, PT and QA should be used by every teacher effective School Year 2015-2016 instead of KPUP. The acronyms stood for Written Work (WW), Performance Task (PT) and Quarterly Assessment (QA). The minimum grade needed to pass a specific learning area is 60, which is transmuted to 75 in the report card. The lowest mark that can appear on the report card is 60 for Quarterly Grades and Final Grades. Learners from Grades 1 to 12 are graded on Written Work, Performance Tasks and Quarterly Assessment. These three are given specific percentage weights that vary according to the nature of the learning area.

The following are the steps in computing the Final Grades:

• Grades from all student work are added up. The results in the total score for each component, namely Written Work, Performance Tasks and Quarterly Assessment. Raw scores from each component  hav to be converted to a Percentage Score. This is to ensure that values are parallel to each other.
• The sum of each component is converted to the Percentage Score. To compute the Percentage Score (PS), divide the raw score by the highest possible score then multiply the quotient by 100%.
• Percentage Scores are then converted to Weighted Scores to show the importance of each component in promoting learning in the different subjects. To do this, the Percentage Score is multiplied by the weight of the component found in the Table 4 (Weight of the Components for Grades 1 to 10. The product is known as the Weighted Score (WS).

Alyasir A. Hussam ended his session with an activity directing every school to create figures or marks to be computed into grades by following the new grading system using transmutation table and processes.
