History

Indanan South District is the Mother District of Indanan Municipality which was established during American Regime in the Philippines particularly Sulu Archipelago (Lupa' Sug).

Municipality of Indanan had only one district in terms of DepED. It was named Indanan District before and after the outbreak of Martial Law on September 21, 1972 that made the said district fail to supervise all the schools in the entire 34 barangays of Indanan Municipality. From 1972 to 1975, all the schools outside the town of Jolo were temporarily closed. At that period, teachers just engaged in gardening activity in Barangay Kajatian, the only adjacent barangay of Indanan to Jolo Municipality.

Alhamdulillah, Polacion Primary School was reopened in 1976. It was the first school opened outside the town of Jolo. Jalim A. Daud was the most courageous teacher to serve those school children evacuated in Barangay Poblacion (Bay Puti'), the heart of Indanan Municipality under the stewardship of Hon. Mayor,  Andan Indanan. He handled almost hundred of Grade I learners under the abandoned house of the municipal mayor. There was no even chalkboard except the concrete wall of the house where Mr. Daud wrote lectures and other learning activities for his school children. After a couple of months, another one teacher followed Mr. Daud. He was Madjid Manajil handling Grade II pupils under the same ruined house. Both learners in Grade I and Grade II had no seating facilities as what we have now except their homemade seats without back and arm for writing. The Public Schools District Supervisor that time, accordingly was Precilla Balbuena. She established her District Office  in the same venue where the current PSDS' Office also rises today. According to some notions, the following names experienced running the Indanan District: 1. Mandangan Paradji; 2. Precilla Balbuena; 3. Aurora Sampang; 4. Lukman Indanan; 5. Anwar M. Sangkula; 6. Lilia T. Lukman; 7. Vicky Sabtula; 8. Siladjan J. Jamiri; 9. Hji. Masihul S. Sajili; 10. Samoore S. Ladjahali; 11. Hji. Abdulgafor J. Madjaluddin; and Samoore S. Ladjahali.

Division of Indanan District into Indanan North and Indanan South Districts happened in 2001 during the reign of Public Schools District Supervisor, Siladjan J. Jamiri. Dr. Hja. Amy U. Malbun, CESO was the Schools Division Superintendent that time. She wanted to install Ibnoraji Hajiri, Principal I to head certain district that was why Indanan North District fell into his stewardship. Indanan South District remained as Mother District occupying the same old office located in Km. 2, Kajatian, Indanan, Sulu while Indanan North District appeared as the newly-created district in Indanan Municipality.

The SDS reminded the new district head of Indanan North District for the establishment of his separate office. As a generous district supervisor of Indanan South District, Siladjan J. Jamiri comforted the head of North to stay in the same office until he had his own. As time went by, the head of North began to have interest in the ownership of the old office justifying his interest in terms of no existing school of South located in Km. 2. North's head started his claim for the ownership of the old office when Siladjan J. Jamiri was already retired and succeeded by Hji. Masihul S. Sajili, the Principal In-Charge of South.

Dispute over the possession of old district office came to public during the power of SDS Unga, NEAP. The SDS who was in attendace at the turn-over ceremony of Indanan South District made by Samoore S. Ladjahali, the outgoing District Temporary Caretaker to Hji. Abdulgafor J. Madjaluddin, the incoming Principal In-Charge suggested to Ibnoraji Hajiri for the establishment of his separate office.

However, he changed quickly his decision by saying, "Offices of both districts shall remain as it is" SDS Unga decided. It remained unsolved because the head of North made some repeated statements that justified for North to own the old office. In September, 2007, OIC SDS, Dr. Tim J. Undain replaced OIC SDS Unga. After a year, quarrel of 2 district heads over district office continued until it reached to the office of SDS Undain.

Finally, SDS Undain signed division memorandum addressing North and South heads to build partition for the separation of district office. The 2 district heads did not comply the memorandum until both of them left DepED for retirement. Dr. Abdulnaser J. Adala, Education Program Supervisor took over Indanan North District as Caretaker while Samoore S. Ladjahali was District In-Charge of Indanan South District. Dr. Adala called the attention of Ladjahali to comply the division memorandum signed by SDS Undain. Samoore; however; asked to for sometime until the district office would be completely repaired.

Alhamdulillah, DepED-ARMM Secretary, Dr. John A. Magno gave financial assistance to Samoore at the amount of P 150, 000.00 solely intended for the renovation of old district office. The check was released in November, 2015.
