CI: The Making Comes Soon

The Legend Villas Hotel, Mandaluyong City, Philippines was the first venue of the scene. DepED-ARMM officials starred the Benchmarking Activity on CI (Contiunuous Imrpovement) methodology implemented in the schools somewhere in NCR (Nacitonal Capital Region), CALAVARZON and Region IV. March 8, 2015 parked the benchmarking participants in preparation for making them all CI Champions. Crafting of CI Action Plan and validation seemed to be the bloody end of the 1-week tour to the different offices and CI schools both in and out of Metro Manila.

CI Champion, Samoore S. Ladjahali  fantasized how he would display the CI image in Indanan South District surrounded by eleven elementary schools and 7 primary schools. As District In-Charge functioning like supervisor, he should serve  as CI school maker. Thus, the DIC named his District CI Program, 'CI: The Making'. This program conceived to view every elementary school showing school CI project outputs in the forthcoming District CI Congregation that may be held on October 23, 2015. The making of District CI Program started last March, 2015 and would completely cover the six-month duration until the conduct of District CI Congregation.

CI: The Making aims to fulfill some objectives such as clearly determined in the following manner:
  1. Adopts CI methodology for school continuous improvement in the entire schools
  2. Targets at least two (2) schools to be CI model
  3. Designates Hja. Nalda J. Muksan District CI Trainer
  4. Includes district CI program in IMSB planning and implementation
  5. Inaugurates CI Congregation on October 23, 2015
In ISD Office, Km. 2, Kajatian, Indanan, Sulu yesterday, CI Action Planning Workshop welcomed the presence of the District Commissioner, Dr. Alvarez A. Salaton, P-II. The District Commissioner updated the school administrators concerning his school visitation which was finally scheduled on June 15, 2015. He answered in an affirmative response when the DIC confirmed the conduct of District Post Conference for the entire teachers and personnel right after the completion of district team visitation. He strongly requested the company of all school heads in the said visit which is continuously undertaken twice a year; consequently; planning and strategy on the district team visitation and district post conference raised the curtain of the 1-Day CI Planning Action Workshop.

"What is the purpose of your visit, Sir?" asked the DIC.

"The Schools Division Superintendent, through Division Memorandum directed us, all district commissioners to conduct school visitation purposely to check the attendance of teachers, enrollment of the schools, classroom structuring and physical aspects of the schools," Dr. Salaton clarified.

"What will be our next move after those things were already checked?" verified by the DIC. "Shall we conduct District Post Conference for the entire teachers after school visitation?" deeply inquired by the DIC.

Since affirmation for the DIC's last query was released by the DC, Samoore S. Ladjahali motivated the schools heads and the DC to strategize the pre and post activities. As agreed, the members of the upcoming district team visitation divided themselves to inspect the following areas with corresponding school officials assigned:
  • Enrollment - Nur-aisha A. Gonzales and Jurmainna H. Hunding
  • School forms - Mussah A. Arabain and Hja. Nalda J. Muksan
  • Classroom structuring - Alyasir A. Hussam
  • Instructional materials - Melda I. Adug and Josefina S. Ajijul
  • Daily lesson log/lesson plans - Faisal A. Kadil and DIC
  • Physical aspects - Andrada M. Asid
  • Conduct of orientation - Masdida M. Sarabi
  • Teacher's punctuality and attendance - District Commissioner
  • Principal's office - DIC and DC

The DIC facilitated the discussion what to do next as the data above would be gathered as a basis for the conduct district post conference that will observed in Timbangan ES on June 15, 2015. The discussion turned out to the determination of the objectives of DPC, topics, strategies and procedures. The DPC may show opening program, feedbacking, presentations/lectures, open forum, DC hours and concluding statement.

The next portion of the 1-day gathering was the presentation of Hja. Nalda J. Muksan, Head Teacher - III of Langpas elementary school. It was about model CI action plan adopted in Langpas ES. It prepared school administrators to visualize the formats, steps and sequence of the processes that design the plan.  The action plan focused on grade 2 pupils that are unable to read. The CI school project name was D-NR (Decrease Non-Readers in Grade 2).

Then the DIC came in flashing the 3 A's approach (Assess, Analyze and Act) which were guided by the 10-step process of CI below.
  1. Get organized
  2. Talk with customers
  3. Walk the process
  4. Identify priority improvement area
  5. Do root-cause analysis
  6. Develop solution
  7. Finalize improvement plan
  8. Pilot your solution
  9. Roll out solution
  10. Check the progress
The steps above were just a review for the school heads. After a while every school head was doing the activity of using the metacard written with priority problem that an action plan supposes to address. So, every school's priority improvement area was on posted metacard.

The second activity was entitlement of every school's CI project based on the identified issue that the CI team is supposed to address. Similarly, every school head wrote the title of CI project on metacard then posted on the wall. Though there were schools that had the same problems to be focused on, duplication of title was surely avoided in a sense that it was boldly posted on the wall.

The third activity was the crafting of the CI action plan of every school head. The DIC flashed on PowerPoint the template showing the steps and guide questions for every process in the action plan template. Thus, school heads were guided to construct their CI action plans. The schools' CI projects may be viewed below.
